It can be great to give your home a little spruce up every now and again but if you’re on a tight budget, how do you achieve a new look for your home without spending too much money?
Rearrange The Furniture
It’s a simple but super effective thing to do in your home and what’s even better, is that it won’t cost you a penny. Go through each room and look at the current layout of the furniture. Start rearranging the main pieces of furniture to see if they fit in a different area of the room. It can make such a huge difference and can transform the space completely.
If you’ve always thought about one space working as something different, then you can always get adventurous and swap over rooms.
Touch Up With Paint
Paint doesn’t cost the earth, so if your walls could do with a little colour, if you just fancy something different, a lick of paint can do wonders to a space. Colour has a psychological effect on our brains, so pick a colour that you love or you feel brings out the most positivity in you. When painting your walls, swatch a variety of colours that you may want.
You want to look at these colours for a couple of days, so you’re absolutely sure it’s the shade for you. Also, a shade may look one way in the daytime but slightly different in the evening. If you don’t fancy yourself a dab hand with the paintbrush, you could always hire a company like WOW 1 Day Painting to do it for you.
It’s All About The Disguise
When you don’t have the funds to buy a new sofa or dining table, you might want to disguise what makes the furniture look a little shabby. For a worn sofa, adding plump cushions and throws are great for covering up any tears or wearing of the material. For a dining table, think about a table runner or tablecloth to cover any damage and then build up the decor on top with placemats, a nice glass vase and some candle holders.
Instead of replacing an item of furniture, you can always get sofas and chairs upholstered and do a little DIY on those pieces that could look brand new if sanded down and painted over.
Take Advantage Of Lighting
The right kind of lighting can change what is a dull and lifeless room, into something completely fresh and new. Opt for warmer toned light bulbs and go with a big statement light in the main living areas. Adding a few table lamps or floor lamps can also fill up the spaces where the light is struggling to fill.
Try and avoid any heavy curtains or blinds that block out natural light and replace them with a lighter material like linen.
There are plenty more ways to spruce up your home, and a lot of these can be cheap or free, so there’s no excuse not to freshen up your home every now and then.
