You must start with a plan if you’re going to successfully remodel your bathroom, so you have an idea of what you want your final product to look like. Don’t: Choose Vinyl tile, Linoleum tile, or Porous Stone Tiles

Lots of homeowners choose vinyl or linoleum for their bathroom floors, but these materials often have seams that can be difficult to seal properly. Porous stones like limestone can be a bad choice too, as they become discolored over time.

Glazed or porcelain tiles are some of the most longest-lasting tiles, they’re also the easiest to care for properly. Make sure you choose a tile with a matte finish or texture or a sandy glaze to make sure it’s not slippery when you’re leaving the bath or shower!

Don’t: Forget About Ventilation

If your bathroom ventilation is no good it will eventually grow mold, which is of course dangerous for your health.

Do: Upgrade Your Ventilation System

If you're remodelling your bathroom, it could be a good idea to upgrade your ventilation system, too. Add a ceiling-mounted vent fan or consider adding a window.

Don’t: Focus on a Trendy Aesthetic

Solely focusing on a trendy look will mean you quickly get bored of your bathroom. Don’t follow trends and instead go for something that you personally love and will like in the long term.

Do: Choose a Timeless Style

If you're going to choose a timeless style, you need to make sure your bathroom will last at least 10 to 20 years - or a buyer buying the house within that time. Choosing a more neutral color scheme can ensure the longevity of your bathroom.

Don’t: Waterproof Your Bathroom Yourself

Waterproofing your bathroom yourself can go very wrong. Just because you can find the materials in a hardware store doesn’t mean you should give it a go. You might also incur some issues with your home insurance if you don't do it properly.

Do: Hire a Plumber to Properly Waterproof Your Bathroom.

Only a certified plumber should complete the waterproofing in your bathroom!

Don’t: Work with Electrical Wiring Yourself

Water and wiring is a huge risk, so don’t even attempt to do this yourself.

Do: Hire a Certified Electrician to Rewire Your Bathroom

It’s a good idea to hire an electrician if your bathroom must be rewired: you may need to replace regular outlets with those designed to function safely near water.

Don’t: Hire a Plumber to Handle The Whole Thing

A whole bathroom remodel is outside a plumber’s area of expertise.

Do: Hire a Full-service Bathroom Remodeler

Do your research on a full service bathroom remodeler in your area with a great reputation so you can get the job done to a high standard. Your bathroom remodel is not something you should take lightly, and isn’t something you should try to save a quick buck on. Doing plenty of research and then interviewing a few remodelers to make sure you choose the right one is recommended.

DON’T: Go Without Storage

The right amount of storage will allow you to store extra toiletries or even a few sets of guest towels. There are all kinds of aesthetic storage solutions that will fit in with your desired look and enable you to store what needs to be stored.

DO: Try To Keep High-end Items Neutral

When we say high end items, we mean things like tile flooring or shower design. Ensuring these things are kept neutral will mean you won’t have to worry too much if you do fancy changing things up a few years down the line, as they will go with a number of decor options. You can always add color, pattern, and your personality to the space using accessories.
