{Bathroom} Making Your Bathroom Your Best Room

Where most rooms can be transformed with a simple rearrangement of furniture and a splash of color on the walls, the bathroom is a lot harder to do up. Without actually fully remodeling the bathroom, you have fixed elements to work around. On top of that, it usually is a small space. Here are some tips to get your bathroom looking its best. Be sure to check out https://kitchensacramento.com/bathroom-remodeling/ for some inspiration and useful starter tips too.

Think Light, Light, and More Light
Bathrooms do tend to be smaller spaces. Any natural sunlight should be used to its fullest potential. Avoid placing objects in front of the window and make use of mirrors to reflect and spread the light out further. This also comes back in the use of colors in the bathroom. Ideally, you will have lighter colors, but dark shades can work as well. Just remember that with dark colors you will need lighter elements to the room that serve as focal points. And if you can’t find a color to your liking, remember there is bathroom wallpaper available that can really bring some uniqueness to your bathroom.

Think Tidy and Neat
As with most small spaces, you want to keep clutter to a minimum. Try to avoid using the bathroom as a storage space for all the different kind of soaps, shower gels and shampoos you collected over the years. Also, your historical collection of toothbrushes can probably be trimmed down. Everything in the bathroom needs to be in active use. You might want to consider investing in decorative soap dispensers and toothbrush holders. Not only does this give a more uniform look, but you can also eliminate cluttering the view with plastic packaging as they come from the brands you use. I use decorative soap dispensers for my Shampoo and Conditioner in my shower. I also have a decorative soap dish to set the body bar soap on so it doesn't get the my window sill all gross, as this is the only shop i have in my shower to set stuff.

Think Just the Right Amount of Shelves and Storage
Avoid leaving towels hanging around and use towels racks for used ones. Fold away the fresh ones if you choose to keep those in the bathroom. When getting shelves and storage consider the bare minimum that you need. Consider placing shelves and storage in places that have become useless because of the placement of the toilet bowl and washing basin. Just above the toilet bowl could be room for a shelf, where you keep items that are not needed daily. Or if you have a pedestal basin, consider the option of placing a cabinet around the pedestal. If you need a step stool for a child consider getting on that has a storage compartment, you can store your child's bath toy or even there other bathroom items in this.

Finishing Touches
Bring some life into the room, consider placing a plant or two. A bit of green can transform most bathrooms from being purely functional to a beautiful space to be in. In terms of accessories, try sticking a theme as it will bring everything together. Just be careful with overdoing things with accessories, less is usually more.

All things considered, if small touch ups simply won’t do the trick, consider a complete remodel. You can roll up the sleeves yourself and DIY your way through it or get some professional help.

Essential Oils - Let's Talk Allergies!

Today I want to talk about Allergies & Essential Oils! I'm not talking about seasonal allergies and how Oils can help them, No. I'm talking about those that have allergic reactions to the Taste, Touch or Smell of something.

*This post contains affiliate links to essential oils and other products I talk about in the post. Purchasing them here from my blog is no extra cost to you but I do earn a commission that helps in the cost of running this blog. Thanks for your support! Read full disclaimer here.

Yes we all love our Oils but for some around us it can be scary if they are allergic to something. I have family & friends who have severe reactions. My dad is allergic to Rose, and I have a friend who is very allergic to nuts if you eat nuts then even kiss her on the cheek she will start having a reaction(its really bad). Then I have another friend who is allergic to lavender.

So what does this mean for us Oil users? Do we stop using our Oils? Do we need to be scared to use them? or just never invite these ones over to our homes? No, like I'm going to not have my dad over to my house (are you kidding me). No we just need to do the loving thing and educate ourselves with our oils, friends and family.

Chances are if they are your family then you know there allergies, and if its a close friend then you probably know as well. But what about those that your not sure, well Simple Just ASK! Most people will be very pleased that you care enough to ask.

But now there are those ones that just don't like something or don't like smells of any kind whats so ever, so how do you know, well you will never really know but the loving thing would be avoid what your friend tells you. One way you can ask without just saying "what oils can I not use around you?" Simple just invite them over for a meal and ask "I would like to have you over for dinner, Do you or your family have any Allergies? Or and Allergies to Pets or Smells?" This shows that you care and that you want them to feel at home when they come over.

So Your First Step would be finding out what you need to avoid, when you are around that such
person.

Your next step is finding out what oils to avoid when either around that person, when there in your car, when you are inviting them to your home or wherever you use oils around them.

Of course with some oils it can be obvious what ones you should avoid. For example when my dad comes he's allergic to Rose so I make sure I don't use my Rose Essential Oil. But that not all i need to avoid there are many blended oils that contain Rose that I cant use when I'm around him.

So don't just think about the main oil, Remember to check your blends. It's very easy to check before you use them just simple go on Young Livings website and search the oil you want to use and at the bottom of the page it will list the ingredients. Now some blends can be a mix of other blends, so if it list a blend in the ingredients don't forget to check that one as well.

Don't be scared to use your oils just educate yourself on your friends and family and know what's in your oils.

Here is a short list of oils that I have put together. It does not list all oils just a few so be sure to still check Young Living's website

 kids Bath Time:
  • While kids are playing in the bathtub give the toilet a quick clean, restock the spare toilet paper & put a new hand towel out.
  • As soon as kids are done with there bath wipe & rinse the tub and rinse any bath toys that were used.

Your Shower Time:
  • 5 min before your shower spry some cleaner on your shower walls. scrub walls as you take your shower.
  • When you get into the shower take a brush with you and give it a good scrub.
  • After dressing take a little time to put everything away and wipe down the counter top.
  • After each shower squeegee your shower door.

More Tips:
  • Use an old toothbrush to clean mold around the plug hole and buildup around sink fixtures.

  • Line your trash can with a plastic bag. This will help it stay clean. (I use shopping bags for this)

  •  Every month or two, give the pipes a good clean to keep them clear of grease, oil, and hair clogs. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain, followed by 1/2 cup white vinegar. 4. Wipe over keyboard with disinfectant wipe
  5. Wipe over the mouse with disinfectant wipe

How To Clean a Toilet and rid of Odor!

Sometimes our toilets can get very smelly, even if we clean it regularly. sometimes its just hard to get that bad smell to go away.

This smell comes from under the toilet seat, so no general clean is going to get it. it comes from build up getting underneath, yes such as pee. If you have a young boy in the house you know its got to be bad.

On most toilets you can just unscrew the toilet lid from under neath.

What To Do:
  1. Take toilet lid off
  2. Put lid in hot water & Disinfectant, let it soak
  3. Mix Bicarb Soda & Lemon Juice tell it makes a paste. (The lemon juice acts as a disinfectant)
  4. Put mix onto areas that need to be cleaned and around the bottom base of the toilet. you want to just slop it on there don't scrub. (if you have extra put it on the floor around toilet.)
  5. let paste sit for 10 min
  6. Spray Paste with a little Vinegar
  7. Let sit another 5 min
  8. Wipe Paste off and give Toilet a good wipe down
  9. Clean & Dry off Lid and Place back.

Its a good Idea to do this every 3 months but if you have a little boy (or even a messy man) do it once every month

Too Much Stuff In The Shower!

What dose your shower look like? Do you have why to much stuff lined up on the floor or window of your shower or all along the edge of your tub?

There is so many things people  keep in the shower and tub like:

     ~Shavers                  ~Shaving cream
     ~Body wash             ~Soap bar
     ~Shampoo               ~Conditioner
     ~Face wash             ~Washcloth
     ~Back scrubber       ~Loofah

and for some women you may even add:

     ~Bikini shaver    ~Bikini shaving cream
     ~Feminine wash

and if you have kids you could even add:

     ~Kids shampoo    ~Kids conditioner
~Bath toys ("oh so many bath toys")

The shower & bath can become so cluttered with all these thing, and it can start to feel very messy and dirty. and if you your keeping your shampoo bottles on the floor of your shower they can get mildew buildup under them, Gross!

So to day we are going to talk about cleaning out the shower & tub!

What do you keep in your shower & tub? Do you have way too many products? Do you maybe even have old empty bottles of shampoo in there?

Take a look in your shower, do you use everything that is in there?

First start with throwing away or put into the cabinet what you haven't used for 2 week's or more. If you don't use it weekly it doesn't belong in the shower!

So Store these item Under your sink and take it into the shower when you need it, but don't keep it in there.

The less Things you keep in Your shower the cleaner it will be and feel. And you will find its so much easier to clean with less stuff in it.

I have a Lot of stuff so I don't like to keep it in the Shower, so I made myself a shower caddy. Read about it (Click Here)

For all my Showers & Tubs in my home, I Have a hand soap pump dispensers that are Filled with Shampoo. Then a little Soap Dish with my Bar Soap and a Body Brush. (See Picture to right)

This is all I keep in My showers and i love it. It always looks so clean and Tidy.

Making a House a Home

You want to be able to call your house a Home. You can in 12 easy ways, and you don't need lots of money to do it.

1 Put some books around.

“Books are not made for furniture, but there is nothing else that so beautifully furnishes a house,” said Henry Ward Beecher. Your books say something about who you are. Find excuses to exhibit them in every room. like on a light stand etc...

2 Get the junk Out.
There is no need to have junk around the inside or outside of a house, so get it out of there!

3 Show off your Photos.
Photographs tell the story of your family. Don’t just feature the professional ones. Buy some cheap frames and insert photos from your most recent vacation.

4 Clean it out.
Have Boxes sitting around do you even know What’s in them? Who knows? then get them out of there no need to have them if you have not used something for 6 months to a year you need to get it gone!

5 Pick it up.
A home should look reasonably clean at all times, so pick it up daily.

6 hang some art.
You don't have to make, or want your home to look like an art gallery! you are hanging art that means something to you.

7 Paint a room.
Paint is the least-expensive way to renovate a home. If you’re stumped as to color, look at photos and fined things you like. earth tones are always nice. dark colors can make a room feel smaller so keep that in mined.

8 Hide the technology.
You don’t live in "Best Buy". Only techno geeks will be impressed to see your multiple remotes and little white wires. and oh boy the Dvd's and Wii etc .. Fined ways to hide them. I like to get the Box's that look like books, I have one on my coffee table and all my remotes go in that. and for my Dvd's i have them all in a Binder case in a closed cabinet.

9 Freshen your windows.
New window treatments make a big difference and don’t have to cost big money. Blinds or drapes finish the look of a house.

10 Make it smell good.
It doesn't have to be fancy, Slice-and-bake cookies are wonderful. So is chicken in a crock-pot. or some boiled cinnamon sticks.

I have a Glade sensor Puff next to my front door in a spot nobody can see very well but were the sensor can see good, that way as people walk in it will go off and my guest will smell its yummy goodness. (i like to change it with the season Summer: Fresh linen, Fall: Pumpkin Spice, Winter: Ginger & Cinnamon, Spring: Blossom's

Note: Do Keep in mined where you will be using it, You don't want you bathroom smelling like Donuts or apple pie, Gross!

Don'ts: Use Plug-Ins they are really not good and can make some people and animals sick. People with asthma have a very hard time when them.
( I use to use them all the time, I personally didn't get sick with them. But the more and more guest I had coming over they would, so I would have to unplug them. its just better to get something else.)

11 Have an open-door.
Lived-in homes have people over. Make people know and feel like they can stop by anytime.

12 Keep snacks handy.
If someone dropped by unexpectedly, could you find a cookie to serve with coffee? Would you have something in the pantry or freezer that you could serve? Planning for hospitality turns rooms into sanctuaries.

The whole Idea is to personalize the Space in which you Live. But with out making it Cluttered. So whether you just moved or are sprucing up what you already own, Put a little of yourself into the mix.
